By nature, cast iron will surface rust over time which is cosmetic only and will not affect the function of the chimenea. To inhibit rusting, rub the chimenea with an oily rag after each use and repaint when necessary using a high temperature BBQ or stove paints. Intense or very regular burning will increase the rate of rusting.
